The Destin Snowbird Club presented the American Cancer Society with a check from its members in the amount of $1,322.10 during their Feb. 6 meeting at the Destin Community Center.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.  The ACS works to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.  One snowbird member said that probably all of us know of at least one person stricken with cancer and by giving we can do our part to help cure this disease forever.

In addition to supporting the ACS, the Destin Snowbirds recently presented a check for $2,305 to Children in Crisis.  Each season, the snowbirds pass the bucket to support the work of this important organization.

In addition to donating dollars to support local and area needs, the overall economic impact of the snowbird population in Destin and the surrounding area is staggering.  According to Ken Campbell, this year's president, membership this year is over 1,000 and it continues to grow.
