AAA: Florida gasoline prices drop slightly after record highs
Florida gasoline prices are inching back down after jumping to a 2024 high last week.
On Sunday, the state average was $3.51 per gallon. "That's four cents more than a week ago, and 11 cents more than this time last year," the AAA-The Auto Club Group said in a press release.
"Gas prices took a step back late last week, but there's still plenty of upward pressure in the fuel market," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for the group.
Spring breakers, seasonal maintenance on refineries, OPEC-extended production cuts and a recent attack on Russian refineries by Ukraine are leading to higher prices across the globe, he explained.
Even though last Tuesday's price of crude jumped to $83.47 per barrel, it settled down by Friday to $80.63.
"There could still be another gas price hike on the way," Jenkins said. "We saw some big oil price gains during the past two weeks, and it can take a week or two before those adjustments move through the retail market."
