It is time to vote for the boy and girl athlete of the week from the Tuscaloosa area for the week of March 25-29.

North River Christian Academy's Gracie Dice won the girls poll last week with 44.9% of votes, while American Christian Academy's Walker Hill won the boys poll with 57% of votes. Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers from the week before. Voting will remain open until noon Thursday.

Tuscaloosa area boys athlete of the week nominations

  • Matthew Hale, ACA soccer, had nine saves in goal, including two penalty kick saves in a 3-2 penalty kick shootout win over Holt.
  • Evan Malone, Northridge baseball, pitched a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Hillcrest, giving up zero runs off of two hits to go with 11 strikeouts and one walk in seven innings pitched.
  • Elliot Overton, Winfield golf, won the West Alabama Conference Championship at Fayette Country Club with a score of 3-over.
  • Jayden Smith, Paul W. Bryant baseball, struck out 11 batters, giving up zero runs on six hits over seven innings in a 3-0 win over Central.
  • Evan Williams, Hillcrest baseball, went 2-for-2 from the plate with a three-run walk off home run in a 14-11 win over Northridge.

Tuscaloosa area girls athlete of the week nominations

  • Anna Christian Beeker, TA golf, shot a 74 (2-over) to lead the Knights to a first place finish at the Tom Tarleton Memorial with a team score of 262.
  • Sasser Braswell, Demopolis tennis, undefeated in area and non-area matches this season with wins over Hillcrest, John Carroll, Trinity, Fayette, Andalusia, UCS, Selma, Northside, Jackson and Sipsey Valley.
  • Kennedy Childers, Brookwood softball, went 3-for-3 from the plate with two home runs and a double in a 5-1 win over Hillcrest. She finished the week going 5-for-7 from the plate and batting .714.
  • Amelia Hamiter, TA soccer, scored six goals in a 10-0 win over Demopolis.
  • Willa Simmons, Winfield softball, gave up zero hits and zero runs while recording nine strikeouts in a 17-0 win over South Lamar.
